Product carbon footprints without additional effort

Product emissions through allocation from your corporate carbon footprint

Many medium-sized suppliers have to provide product-related emissions data in addition to their company balance sheets – often without the capacity to calculate each product individually in a time-consuming process.

The allocation method still allows for efficient product-related CO₂ values: we derive the emissions directly from your Corporate Carbon Footprint – transparently and without additional effort.

What our combined process provides

Efficient CO₂ values for your products too

Links company and product level:

Based on your Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) with us, the emissions calculated are distributed across all your product groups.

Consideration of the entire life cycle:

Scope 1 and 2 emissions (own consumption and energy) as well as purchased raw materials and transport from Scope 3 are allocated using traceable criteria such as sales price, weight, or material usage in order to map the entire product life cycle from cradle-to-gate or cradle-to-grave.

Pragmatic and time-efficient:

Do you sell hundreds of products and need emission values for each one? By allocating them based on criteria such as product price or material usage, representative average values can be obtained with manageable effort—ideal for companies with many similar products.

Certified result:

Product emissions calculated by our specialists in accordance with GHG-compliant procedures using the allocation method and documented with results and methodology reports as well as certificates.

Your project process

From the corporate carbon footprint to your product emissions

1. Corporate carbon footprint as a basis

First, your CCF is assessed according to our proven TÜV-certified process. The data structure is prepared in such a way that subsequent product-related allocation can be carried out efficiently.

2. Allocation to products

Our experts divide your emission sources (Scope 1–3) into logical categories, such as energy, materials, and transportation. This structure forms the basis for a clear, transparent distribution across product groups. The emissions are then distributed among the products sold using appropriate key figures – such as sales shares, production volumes, or weights. The allocation criteria are agreed with you individually to ensure a realistic representation of your business.

3. Handover of results

You will receive a complete PCF report including a description of the methodology, allocation logic, and certificate—which you can use for customer communications, tenders, or supply chain requirements.

Allocation PCF

For whom this method is suitable

✓ Emissions data required at company and product level

Companies that also require a corporate carbon footprint (CCF), i.e., a balance sheet at the company level, benefit twice from the allocation method. The existing data structure from the CCF is used directly for product emissions, eliminating the need for additional effort to collect completely new data.

✓ Requests from suppliers

The process is suitable for companies whose customers request product-related emission values. Suppliers can use it to provide CO₂ values per product or product group—for example, for tenders or supplier declarations from their customers.

✓ Similar products

Ideal for medium-sized manufacturing companies and suppliers whose products/product groups are similar in terms of design, materials, and processes. For example, manufacturers of metal components such as bolts or housings that differ in size or surface treatment (e.g., anodized, polished, galvanized) or food producers that manufacture varieties of a product line, e.g., different sauces, spreads, or beverages with similar ingredients and processes.

✘ Only product emissions required

If you only need product emissions, e.g., for product optimization or customer communication purely about your products, we recommend our Precision PCF. More detailed product data is collected for its calculation, independently of the corporate carbon footprint.

✘ Highly heterogeneous products

If products cannot be meaningfully compared using a common metric (e.g., weight or share of sales), the allocation method is not suitable. Example: A company manufactures both wood and metal products or combines manual and highly automated production – in this case, a precise individual assessment using Precision-PCF should also be selected.
